Despite living on the tranquil, slow-paced Garden Island, Kaua'i High School's Tiffany Ikeda-Simao was able to find the fast lane on the statewide level.
She burst upon the scene as a freshman, winning the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation 200-meter dash title and running on the Red Raiders' KIF 4x100 relay championship team that placed fourth in the state.
Ikeda-Simao then made a splash as a sophomore, winning KIF titles in the 100, 200 and 4x100 and then placing second in the 100-meter state championship, just 2/100th of a second behind the winner. She also took third in the 200, fifth in the long jump and was on Kaua'i's runner-up 4x100 relay team, helping the Red Raiders to a third-place overall team finish.
This past season, Ikeda-Simao tied the KIF championship meet record in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 6 inches, then won two gold medals at the state meet, winning the 100 in 12.8 seconds and helping the 4x100 relay team to victory.
She also was runner-up in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump, helping Kaua'i finish fourth in the team standings.
Ikeda-Simao's speed translated well on the soccer field, as she earned all-KIF honors in each of the past three seasons as a defender/utility player.
In the classroom, Ikeda-Simao carried a 3.7 grade point average.
Ikeda-Simao will attend UH-Manoa in the fall and hopes to major in kinesiology and possibly play soccer for the Rainbow Wahine.
