After a globetrot, Kaua'i resident Anna Lucas is back with fabrics, notions and ideas, which she's throwing into her designs. You'll find them in the next Urban Pacific show-and-shop fashion event from 5 to 10 p.m. today at NextDoor, 43 N. Hotel St. "She's very creative and intuitive to fashion changes," says organizer Lacy Matsumoto.
And rising star Dan Weaver will show off his wares. He's in town from Los Angeles, where he auditioned for the next season of "Project Runway."
Organic fabrics, recycled materials and reconstructed designs are the focus of the Earth Day-oriented Urban Pacific, which offers emerging designers an opportunity to retail their unique, creative lines to the public.
Also in the lineup: Backyard Thieves, Mechakawa Vintage, La Pistil, Lia Sophia, Etta O6, Guava Bags, Sassy Lassy, Stylus and Roberta Oaks.
Even the drinks will have an organic theme as NextDoor introduces the SMART Bar, offering fresh juices and smoothies. The cost is $7 at the door. Information: 953-0002.
CALLING FABRIC NUTS
Temari's annual "Bolts of Fabric and Fun" offers fabric and craft junkies an opportunity to buy unusual ethnic textiles, vintage garments and notions.
The free event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Honpa Hongwanji Social Hall on Pali Highway. Information: merlegrybowski@yahoo .com or 732-3710.
CITRON SANTA MONICA
Citron Santa Monica is a favorite among Island women. Designer Ricki Wolman offers Asian and vintage motifs, machine washable natural fibers (silks and linens) and easy shapes that make the line a natural for our climate.
From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Gilda Miniassian, owner of Calista at Kahala Mall, is bringing a special trunk show of the summer and fall 2007 Citron collection to her store. During the show, shoppers will enjoy 15 percent savings off the regular Citron prices, as well as special gifts. Space is limited, so an R.S.V.P. is recommended: 735-6830.
PACKING FOR TRAVEL
When I gave my "Packing for Travel" talk at Kahala Mall, more than 100 people had to be turned away due to an overflow crowd. Now those interested in learning how to pack for a one-month trip in a carry-on bag will have another chance to hear the talk.
The Friends of the Library will sponsor the free talk at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 'Aiea Library. Information: 483-7333.
