Some go for the food (malasadas, yes!), some for the rides and games, others for the white-elephant sale, and produce and plants. And some because it's really the only school carnival on the island anymore.

Where are they all going? To Carnivalot — Damsels and Dragons and Wizards, Oh My! of course, the annual Punahou School carnival that continues today from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is free, but cash will get you the stuff you want and want to do.

Want food? There'll be favorites such as Portuguese bean soup, Hawaiian plates, corn, hamburgers and teri burgers, chili, noodles, nachos and gyros.

What's new? A video booth, where you can make a 2-minute video starring you, for $4. On the midway, there's Merlin's Motorway, a remote-control truck off-road adventure for two players. In Kiddieland, play three mini holes at the Hole-y Knight Golf Course.

Gimme the arts! More than 900 original works by 250 artists are for sale or pure perusal. Among the artists are printmaker Allyn Bromley, painter Jon Hamblin and painter/sculptor Jodi Endicott.

Up for bid: Head for the Cornuelle Lecture Hall in the Mamiya Science Center, where the silent auction features items such as salon services, travel, restaurant and hotel certificates, electronics and gift baskets. Doors open at 1 p.m. today. Bidding closes at 5 p.m.
