College baseball: Wittels and FIU heading to Miami for NCAA regional

MIAMI — Florida International's Garrett Wittels will take his long hitting streak on a short trek to the NCAA tournament.
FIU is headed about eight miles from its campus to the Coral Gables Regional, where the third-seeded Golden Panthers — and their shortstop with a 54-game hit streak, the second-longest in Division I history — will meet second-seeded Texas A&M on Friday.
Miami is the regional host and top seed, and will play fourth-seeded Dartmouth in the double-elimination event.
Wittels is within four games of matching Robin Ventura's Division I record 58-game streak, set in 1987.
