HPU wins, will play for NCAA II World Series softball title tomorrow

Hawai'i Pacific will play for its first Division II national championship tomorrow.
The Sea Warriors (49-6) beat Metro State (Colo.) 7-2 today at Heritage Park in St. Joseph, Mo. in a semifinal game of the NCAA Division II Softball World Series.
HPU, the third-ranked team in the nation, will play No. 2 Valdosta State (50-8) at 9 a.m. Hawai'i time. The game will be live on CBS College Sports TV. The game can be heard on AM 1500 and online at www.redzonemedia.com.
Sherise Musquiz (33-3) allowed two runs on six hits to pick up the win for HPU. She also drove in three runs and batted 2 for 4. Leadoff batter Ciera Senas went 2 for 4 with an RBI, clean-up hitter Nicole Morrow 3 for 4 and No. 9 hitter Chante Tesoro 2-3. Designated player Maile Kim also recorded an RBI and second batter Casey Sugihara scored twice.
The Sea Warriors led 1-0 after the first inning, but trailed 2-1 after the third. HPU reclaimed the lead with two runs in the fourth and scored one more in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Kellie Nishikida, a former Pearl City High and HPU player, batted 1 for 3 for Metro State.
Hawai'i Loa College won the NAIA national title in 1991. It merged with HPU in 1992.
