MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Florida International's Garrett Wittels is four games shy of matching the NCAA Division I hitting-streak record.
Wittels' streak is now at 54 games, after he hit a fifth-inning single on Sunday against Troy in the Sun Belt Conference championship game. The winner gets an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.
Wittels has the second-longest streak in Division I history, chasing only the 58-game run by Robin Ventura in 1987 for Oklahoma State.
