Advertiser Staff
Former University of Hawai'i basketball standout Alika Smith has stepped down as head coach at Punahou School to take over the program at Kalaheo, his alma mater.
Punahou athletic director Jeaney Garcia and Kalaheo AD Mark Brilhante both confirmed Smith's move.
This past season was Smith's first at Punahou; he had been head coach at the Academy of the Pacific the year before.
Smith was a three-time Advertiser All-State selection at Kalaheo, from 1992 through 1994. His late father, Pete, guided the Mustangs to three state championships and retired in 2003 as one of Hawai'i's all-tiime winningest coaches.
Kalaheo's home court is named "Pete Smith Court."
