Gabe Henry, an assistant coach at Odessa (Junior) College in Texas, is the new Rainbow Wahine basketball assistant, head coach Dana Takahara-Dias announced.

Henry replaces Patrick Knapp, who was hired in September and resigned after his first season.

"Gabe will offer us tremendous recruiting ability in the junior college system as well as in the Midwest," Takahara-Dias said. "He brings great enthusiasm and exuberance to the program. He will work with the post players and will be one of our recruiting coaches."

Henry helped the Wranglers qualify to the NJCAA Region 5 tournament with a 23-8 overall record last season. He also coached three All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference players, including All-Region 5 player Judith Tabala.

Prior to Odessa, Henry was Director of Women's Basketball Operations at Gonzaga. In his second season at Gonzaga in 2009, Henry helped the Bulldogs to their first NCAA tournament win. The team won the West Coast Conference tournament and went 27-7.

After playing two years at Missouri Valley (2003 to 2005), Henry was a student assistant for the men's basketball team from 2005 to 2007. He also helped coach the junior varsity men's basketball team to a second-place finish at the HAAC JV Tournament in 2007.

Henry earned his bachelor's in physical education at Missouri Valley College. During his two years as a graduate assistant at Gonzaga, he earned his master's of arts degree in sport and athletic administration. Henry is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, as well as the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
