Hawai'i scored six runs in the top of the 11th inning and then held off San Jose State, 17-14, today to take the Western Athletic Conference series, 3-1, at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif.

The Rainbows' fourth extra-inning game of the season evened their WAC record to 12-12 and gave them sole possession of fourth place, a game ahead of fifth-place Louisiana Tech. The teams will play each other in Wednesday's opener of the WAC tournament.

Hawai'i (29-25 overall) sent 12 batters to the plate in the 11th that began with a lead-off double by Sean Montplaisir with Jeffrey Van Doornum driving in the go-ahead run with a single and followed by a two-run single by David Freitas, sacrifice fly by Greg Garcia, RBI single by Collin Bennett and bases-loaded walk by Matt Roquemore.

All of the runs were against Craig Broussard (1-2), who was charged with all of the runs in one inning of work.

The Spartans threatened in the bottom of the 11th on Danny Steenstra's three-run home run that pulled the Spartans (21-25, 9-15) to 17-14.

Harrison Kuroda (1-1) pitched the final two innings for the Rainbows.
