Fire destroys uninhabited building in Fern Acres
A fire Tuesday night destroyed what Hawai'i County firefighters called an "unpermitted, unfinished, uninhabited structure" in Puna.
A fire department news release said the 20-by-20-foot building was in heavy brush near a Pikake Street address in Fern Acres.
Firefighters said there were no fire hydrants in the immediate area and that only a small trail led to the structure. They said the building was engulfed in flames and that its walls and roofs had collapsed by the time fire crews arrived.
The fire was contained quickly, the fire department said.
No other structures were threatened.
