Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i's Fanny Hopeau, a member of the 1968 U.S. Women's Olympic Volleyball Team, will be presented the Flo Hyman All-Time Great Player Award at the 65th annual Dorothy C. Boyce Awards Ceremony, May 27 in Phoenix.

Hopeau was selected for the 1967 FIVB World Championship team in Tokyo and won the silver medal. She also played in the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada, helping the squad to the gold medal.

She was named to the 1968 Olympic team that competed in Mexico City and returned to international volleyball in 1971 at the Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, where the U.S. won silver.

Hopeau played volleyball for Nu'uanu Y and Nick's Fish Market. She earned first-team All-America honors five times at the USA Volleyball Open National Championships. For all her playing accomplishments and directing young children into the sport of volleyball, she was inducted into the Hawai'i Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.

The awards for USA Volleyball's All-Time Great Male Players are named after the late Thomas Haine, from Hawai'i. Haine was captain of the 1968 U.S. Men's Olympic Team and a perennial USA Volleyball All-American. This year the Haine Awards go to Kirk Kilgour, Danny Patterson and Rod Wilde.
