UH softball team to open against UC Davis in NCAA Tournament

The University of Hawai'i softball team earned the No. 16 seed overall and will open against UC Davis in the NCAA Tournament's Stanford Regional, May 21 at Stanford, Calif.
The 64-team field was announced yesterday. Also in the double-elimination regional are host Stanford (36-17) and Texas Tech (36-16). Alabama was the No. 1 seed overall.
UC Davis, making its first tournament appearance, finished the regular season 26-27 overall and clinched the Big West Conference's automatic NCAA berth with a 15-6 mark.
UH and UC Davis will play at noon Hawai'i time, with Texas Tech and Stanford playing at 3 p.m.
The Rainbow Wahine (44-13), ranked No. 23 in the nation, won the Western Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championship.
The Rainbows have hit 141 home runs this season, a national single-season record.
The Rainbows defeated UC Davis earlier this season, 8-5. They split two games with Stanford, losing 2-0 and winning 11-5.
Fresno State, which lost in the WAC championship game to Hawai'i Saturday, also made the NCAA field and will open against San Diego State in the Los Angeles Regional.
The regional winners will face off in the May 28-29 Super Regionals, with eight teams advancing to the 2010 Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, June 3-9.
