Police seek woman who drove car at officer in church parking lot

Advertiser Staff

Police were looking for a 59-year-old woman who allegedly tried to run down a police officer in the parking lot of a Nuuanu church Monday night.

Police said a 40-year-old undercover officer and her partner saw a suspicious vehicle in the lot about 9 p.m. and that the woman driving the car appeared to be engaged in a drug transaction.

One of the officers approached the driver's side of the car, announced that she was a police officer and showed her badge.

Police said the driver put the car in reverse and the officer began walking toward the parking lot entrance.

The car lunged then twice at the officer, coming within three feet of her the second time, police said.

The officer drew her gun, but the car left the parking lot via a second exit, police said.

Both officers were able to get the license number, but the car and its driver had not been located as of this morning.

When arrested, the woman will likely face charges of attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangering and refusing to stop, police said.
