11 others vying for seat in Congress

While much attention has been given to the top three candidates in the 1st Congressional District special election, there are 11 other candidates hoping to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Neil Abercrombie.
Democrats Ed Case and Colleen Hanabusa, along with Republican Charles Djou, have grabbed most of the headlines. The three also have been invited to participate in debates and panel discussions.
Left out of the process for the most part are 11 men who appear on the ballot.
They are C. Kaui Amsterdam, Jim Brewer, Vinny Browne, Charles "Googie" Collins, Douglas Crum, Rafael Del Castillo, John "Raghu" Giuffre, Philmund "Phil" Lee, Karl Moseley, Kalaeloa Strode and Steve Tataii.
These candidates acknowledge that they have little chance in the winner-take-all race, but said they are running because they believe in the democratic process.
Ballots have been mailed to more than 300,000 voters in urban Honolulu and the results will be announced May 22.
