Punahou, HBA earn top seeds in state volleyball

The Punahou and Hawai'i Baptist boys volleyball teams earned the top seeds for this week's New City Nissan/HHSAA State Championships.
Defending champion Punahou (20-0) is the top seed in the 12-team Division I tournament which starts Wednesday with matches at McKinley and Kaimuki.
O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Roosevelt (16-0) is seeded second, Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Kamehameha-Hawai'i (14-0) is seeded third and Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin (11-1) is seeded fourth.
McKinley, OIA's sixth-place team, plays at BIIF runner-up Waiakea tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. to determine the final berth into the tournament.
The Division I final is Saturday at 7 p.m. at McKinley.
Two-time state champion Hawai'i Baptist (18-3), the ILH champion, is the top seed in the eight-team Division II tournament which starts Thursday with matches at Kalani and Farrington. OIA champion Moanalua (15-0) is seeded second, MIL champion Seabury Hall (9-0) is seeded third and BIIF champion Pahoa (13-4) is seeded fourth.
The Division II final is Saturday at 5 p.m. at McKinley.
