The trend of significantly more home sales continued on Kaua'i and the Big Island last month, though median prices continued to bump around because of the relatively small number of transactions.

Sales soared the most in Kaua'i's condominium market, more than doubling to 30 in April from 14 in the same month last year, according to data released by Hawaii Information Service.

The median price for Kaua'i condo sales surged 45 percent to $428,000 last month from $296,000 a year earlier, though the change was largely due to the mix of homes sold.

Most of the additional condo sales in April were relatively high-value homes, which boosted the median (the point at which half the sales were for more and half for less).

Of the 16 additional sales last month on the Garden Isle, nine were in the Kawaihau area, which includes Kapa'a, and sold for a median $647,000. A year earlier there was just one sale in Kawaihau, for $925,000.

By comparison, the lower end of the market was dominated by 10 condo sales in Līhu'e last month for a median $162,000.

A year earlier, Līhu'e had six sales at a median $193,541 and represented a bigger proportion of total sales.

In Kaua'i's single-family-home market, there were 23 sales last month compared with 21 a year earlier. The median price was down 15 percent to $465,000 from $550,000.

The number of single-family homes sold on the Big Island rose 76 percent to 162 in April from 92 a year earlier. The median price was up 4 percent to $239,950 from $230,500.

Big Island condo sales rose 72 percent to 43 last month from 25 a year earlier.

The median price was down 14 percent to $250,000 from $290,000.
