DALLAS — Angela Dianne Bryant, mother of Dallas Cowboys top draft choice Dez Bryant, has had two brushes with the law in the Lufkin, Texas, area during the last two years, according to Department of Public Safety records.

The incidents came a decade after her previously reported arrest in 1997 for selling crack cocaine. Angela Bryant pleaded guilty and served 18 months of a four-year sentence.

In May 2008, Angela Bryant pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of supplying false information about herself to a police officer. She paid a $250 fine in addition to $224 in court costs.

The second arrest occurred in April 2009 and again involved the possession and sale of crack cocaine, according to Lufkin police.

Three months after the arrest, Angela Bryant pleaded guilty to two charges of the delivery of a substance in Penalty Group 1, which includes cocaine, and one charge of possession of a substance in Penalty Group 1. She received deferred adjudication and was put on probation for 10 years.

Angela Bryant did not respond to interview requests. David Wells, a Dallas-based family confidante, defended her.

"She's a wonderful mother and is going to school and doing a wonderful job of turning her life around," Wells said. "That's all I know."

Angela Bryant's background came into play after the draft.

Yahoo Sports reported that Miami general manager Jeff Ireland asked Dez Bryant during a predraft interview if his mother was a prostitute. Ireland has apologized to Dez Bryant for the question.

On Monday, Angela Bryant complained to the website Fanhouse.com that the 1997 arrest was being used against her son. She did not mention the other two arrests.

"When they couldn't find enough dirt on him, they went to that," she told Fanhouse.com. "It was almost like a scheme. They should never have put that kind of thing or question on him. Whatever reason they chose to do that, they are talking about my charges of 12 years ago and running with it. I'm not OK with it. But we are both going to be OK."

Bryant, a wide receiver, said during the Cowboys' rookie mini-camp last weekend that he would not discuss the Ireland situation.

Holland signs two-year deal: Cowboys guard Montrae Holland signed a two-year contract with the potential to pay him more than $5 million.

The backup offensive lineman is scheduled to make just under $4 million in base salary. That number escalates to $5.2 million based on how much playing time he earns.

Holland was inactive for all 16 games in 2009.
