HONOLULU — Hawaii's largest health insurer isn't waiting for a new federal health care provision to go into effect in September.

The Hawaii Medical Service Association said Monday that it's allowing hundreds of young adults to remain covered on their parents' health plan.

Recently signed health care reform legislation will make health coverage available to adult children up to age 26 beginning Sept. 23.

As an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, HMSA says it joined other Blue plans across the country in committing to implement the provision by June 1.

HMSA says it recognized young people might lose their health coverage because of their age, graduation from school or a change in student status.
