HPU softball team sweeps Dominican

Ashley Valine pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks as Hawai'i Pacific beat Dominican, 8-0, yesterday to complete a sweep of a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader at San Rafael, Calif.
Maile Kim and Chelsea Luckey each had two RBIs for the Sea Warriors (23-1, 14-1) in a game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.
In the opener, Kozy Toriano had four RBIs, and Luckey teamed with Sherise Musquiz on a three-hitter as HPU won, 13-0, in five innings.
ELSEWHERE
Hilo splits: Sarah Weisskopf pitched a four-hitter and Aisha Sueda had two hits and two RBIs as Hawai'i-Hilo (22-9) beat Western Washington (8-9), 6-1, in a non-conference game at Seaside, Calif. Later, Diane Ortiz pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as Cal State Monterey Bay (17-8) beat the Vulcans, 4-1.
Chaminade swept: Lauren Folta pitched a two-hitter in the first game and Brittnie Whipple pitched a three-hitter in the second as Dixie State swept Chaminade, 9-1 and 12-0, in a PacWest doubleheader at St. George Utah. Dixie is 15-8 and 10-4. Chaminade is 13-19 and 10-14.

HPU SPLITS
Blake Amaral had three hits and three RBIs, and Les Akeo added two hits and three RBIs as Hawai'i Pacific beat Northwest Nazarene, 12-7, yesterday to salvage a split of a non-conference doubleheader at Nampa, Idaho.
In the first game, Ryan VanBeek hit a three-run homer and Sean McDonald a two-run shot as the Crusaders (14-13) beat the Sea Warriors (21-6). Amaral had three hits and an RBI for HPU.
ELSEWHERE
Hilo falls: Brett Adams' two-run homer spiced a three-run seventh inning that broke an 8-8 tie and propelled Dixie State past Hawai'i-Hilo, 11-8, in a non-conference game at St. George, Utah. Drew Oldfield and Rhett Welsh also homered for the Red Storm (17-9). Shane Kessel had three hits, including a solo homer, and Kekoa Lee had two hits and two RBIs for the Vulcans (5-16).
TRACK & FIELD
KEENAN HONORED
University of Hawai'i discus thrower TeRina Keenan has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Keenan, a sophomore from New Zealand, received the "field" award for winning the discus event with a personal best of 169 feet, 7 inches at last weekend's USC Trojan Invitational.
Kennan's throw ranks second in the nation and is more than 9 feet better than the second-best mark among WAC throwers this season.
Hawai'i will compete in three meets in Northern California this week.
BOXING
CLINIC ON SUNDAY
A boxing coaches clinic will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hawaii Self Storage in Kapolei.
The clinic is for people who want to become officially certified by USA-Boxing as a coach. The clinic is free for those already registered. USA-Boxing registration fee is $80.
Hawaii Self Storage is located at 488 Kamokila Blvd., elevator code is 1333* with the clinic on the third floor.
