The state House of Representatives will honor two Hawai'i pastors today for their work at New Hope Christian Fellowship, Rep. Karen Awana's office said today.

Pastors Elwin P. Ahu and Roy Yamamoto Jr. will be recognized at noon at the beginning of the floor session in the state Capitol's House Chambers.

Ahu is a former Circuit Court judge who left the bench to become New Hope's executive pastor. He has inspired members of his ministry and mentored future leaders, according to a statement from Awana.

Yamamoto, who once had been convicted on drug charges, established the New Start Ministry, which assists former prison inmates to reconnect with the community. He also speaks to youths to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs.
