AARP Hawaii and Lanakila Meals on Wheels held a march from Honolulu Hale to the state Capitol today in an event aimed at building public and legislative support for Kupuna Care, a state-funded program that provides basic services to seniors who are unable to live in their homes without assistance.

Lanakila Meals on Wheels delivers 250,000 meals each year to seniors on Oahu but says budget cuts threaten its ability to continue that level of service.
A study by the Meals on Wheels Association of America found that 5.24 percent of residents age 60 to 90 in Hawaii are at risk of going hungry, which is one out of every 20 seniors.
