MLB: Mets' Reyes back in camp after thyroid issue

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes is back in camp and working out for the first time in 19 days after being sidelined because of a hyperactive thyroid.
Reyes returned to camp in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Wednesday, a day after he was cleared by doctors to resume baseball activities.
Doctors had recommended rest and a change in diet. It was initially thought he might miss as many as eight weeks. Reyes has not played in a spring training game, other than an intrasquad scrimmage.
He was pulled before his scheduled debut on March 5 when team doctors determined he needed more testing in New York after taking blood for his physical.
Reyes will be tested weekly and remains on the diet.
