SEATTLE — Gonzaga's do-everything senior Vivian Frieson scored 23 points, including the go-ahead 12-footer with 17 seconds left, to lead seventh-seeded Gonzaga to a 72-71 upset win over second-seeded Texas A&M last night in the second round of the NCAA women's tournament.

"It means the world to me. Me and Heather (Bowman) have been a part of a lot of firsts here at this university," said Frieson, who added nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks. "It felt great to go to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 2007. It felt great to win our first game last year against Xavier and it feels even better to go to the Sweet 16."

Gonzaga (29-4) won its 20th straight, its last loss coming to the same Aggies (26-8) three months ago in Las Vegas.

Following Frieson's go-ahead basket, Texas A&M had one last chance, but Danielle Adams' forced jumper from 18 feet fell short as time ticked away.

Gonzaga's Tatriana Lorenzo, a Kamehameha Schools alum, had one assist and two steals in six minutes.

STANFORD, Calif. — Rosalyn Gold-Onwude hit a career-high seven 3-pointers on the way to a career-best 26 points and the Cardinal (33-1) shot a sizzling 68.8 percent in the first half to roll past the Hawkeyes (20-14).

Nnemkadi Ogwumike added 23 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in Stanford's 24th straight victory since its lone loss at undefeated defending champion Connecticut back on Dec. 23.

TEMPE, Ariz. — Freshman Jasmine James scored 14 of her career-high 27 points in overtime to lead the Bulldogs (25-8) to a victory over the Cowgirls (24-11).

Andrea Riley, the nation's No. 3 scorer at 26.6 points per game, returned from a one-game suspension to score 31 for Oklahoma State. Her attempt for a game-tying 3-pointer banked off the rim at the buzzer.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Alicia Manning scored a career-high 17 points and had 10 rebounds to help the Vols (32-2) beat the Flyers (25-8).

A three-point play by Shekinna Stricklen launched a 17-2 scoring run for Tennessee. Justine Raterman led the Flyers with 17 points.

NO. 2 DUKE 60, NO. 7 LSU 52

DURHAM, N.C. — Jasmine Thomas scored 15 points to help the Blue Devils (29-5) pull away late and beat the Tigers (21-10).

Bridgette Mitchell scored 12 points for Duke, which went ahead to stay on Thomas' layup with 3 1/2 minutes left. The typically sure-handed Tigers matched a season high with 22 turnovers and had one field goal in the final 4 minutes.

BERKELEY, Calif. — Brittney Griner blocked an NCAA tournament record 14 shots, leading the Bears (25-9) to a victory over the Hoyas (26-7).

Griner broke the mark Pauline Jordan of UNLV set against Colorado in 1989. Georgetown shot 17 percent and made fewer shots than Griner blocked, finishing 12 for 70 and matching the fifth fewest points ever scored in the tournament.

NO.4 KENTUCKY 70, NO.5 MICHIGAN STATE 52

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Victoria Dunlap scored 21 points to lead the Wildcats (27-7) into the regional semifinals for the first time in 28 years with a victory over the Spartans (23-10).

The Wildcats used a 24-6 run shortly after halftime to turn a two-point game into a rout. They held the Spartans to 35 percent shooting while forcing 18 turnovers.

NO. 3 FLORIDA STATE 66, NO. 6 ST. JOHN'S 65, OT

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Jacinta Monroe scored Florida State's final four points of regulation to spark a last-ditch rally, then scored the game winner with 28.9 seconds left as the Seminoles (28-5) beat the Red Storm (25-7).

Monroe scored a game-high 16 points for Florida State (28-5), which got 15 from Alysha Harvin.
