A 61-year-old Kalihi woman was charged today in connection with the stabbing death yesterday of her mother.
Claudia Warner-Gonzales was charged with one count of second-degree murder and her bail was set at $500,000. She is expected to make her initial appearance in Honolulu District Court tomorrow morning.
Warner-Gonzales is accused of stabbing her 88-year-old mother in the chest at the elder woman’s Nuuanu home Monday morning. Dorothy Stribling was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, but she later died.
An autopsy determined that Stribling bled to death from a stab wound to her chest, according to the city medical examiner’s office. The manner of death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner said.
Police arrested Warner-Gonzales at her mother’s Rosebank Place home shortly before 8 a.m. Monday. Stribling’s son, who also lived at the residence, called 911 after finding his injured mother, police said.
Police have not said what may have led to the stabbing. Warner-Gonzales visited her mother frequently, neighbors said.
If convicted, Warner-Gonzales faces a mandatory prison term of life with the possibility of parole.
