NFL: Punter Josh Bidwell signs with Washington Redskins
Associated Press
ASHBURN, Va. — Free-agent punter Josh Bidwell has signed with the Washington Redskins after missing all of the 2009 season with a hip injury.
Bidwell was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this month after playing for them since 2004. He went on injured reserved in August 2009.
The 34-year-old Bidwell also was with the Green Bay Packers from 1999-2003, although he missed his entire rookie season because of testicular cancer.
He has a career average of 42.8 yards and was a Pro Bowl pick in 2005.
Hunter Smith had a 41.3 average as Washington's punter last season. His contract expired, and he is an unrestricted free agent.
