Parnaby, 'Bows shut out California

Kaia Parnaby pitched a two-hitter and Kelly Majam hit a solo home run to lift Hawai'i to a 3-0 victory over 13th-ranked California last night in the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The Rainbow Wahine are 21-10. California is 21-6.

It was a different story from Thursday when Cal pitcher Valerie Arioto struck out 17 in a 5-0 victory over Hawai'i.

Yesterday, Parnaby struck out 12, including Arioto with two runners on, to end the game in the seventh.

Majam hit a homer to center field to start the game. UH also scored on Katie Grimes' RBI single in the fifth and on a passed ball that allowed Brynne Buchanan to score in the sixth.

Hawai'i plays Lipscomb and Cal today.

PACIFIC WEST

HPU SWEEPS

Caelen O'Meara pitched his third complete game of the season to lead Hawai'i Pacific to a 7-1 victory in the second game of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader sweep yesterday over Academy of Art at Moraga, Calif.

Kale Sumner drove in three runs in HPU's 9-6 victory in the first game. The Sea Warriors are 18-5 overall and 13-2 in the PacWest. Academy of Art is 2-17 and 2-9.

O'Meara, a left-handed senior from Winsdor, Calif., allowed three hits with no earned runs, struck out seven and walked one in seven innings. He improved to 3-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.64.

Kenny Turner hit a two-run single in a four-run second inning for HPU.

In the first game, Sumner went 3 for 4, including a two-run single in the third and an RBI double in the sixth. Michael Green (4-0) earned the victory in relief.

In PacWest softball, Grand Canyon (20-4, 10-4) beat Chaminade (13-13, 10-8) in a doubleheader at Phoenix. The scores were 10-0 and 11-5.

At St. George, Utah, Hawai'i-Hilo (20-7, 16-6) split a doubleheader with Dixie State (10-7, 5-3). Dixie State won the first game, 11-3 in five innings, while the Vulcans won the second game, 7-5.

GOLF

FUJIKAWA TWO BACK

Honolulu's Tadd Fujikawa shot a third-round 3-under 69 yesterday and was two shots back of the leader in the eGolf Professional Tour's Cabarrus Classic at the Cabarrus Country Club course in Concord, N.C.

The Moanalua High School alum has a three-round total of 9-under 207. He is tied for fourth and is two shots behind leader David Robinson, who shot 2-under 70 today and is at 205.

Ryan Carter (68) and Joe Daley (71) are at 10-under 206.

Fujikawa, 19, is tied with Jason Kokrak, who shot his third consecutive 69.
