Police ask for the public's help in finding a man who robbed the Makiki branch of First Hawaiian Bank on Thursday, the ninth bank heist on O'ahu this year.
The man entered the bank at 1111 South Beretania St. about 3:20 p.m. and demanded money from a teller, police said.
No weapon was seen, but the man was given an undetermined amount of money and was last seen heading toward Young Street, police said.
The robber was described as in his 30s to 40s, 5 feet 8 to 6 feet, 160 to 200 pounds, with a black mustache. He wore a dark wig, beige long-sleeve collared shirt and dress slacks and was carrying a black duffel bag.
So far this year, there have been nine bank robberies on O'ahu and police said they've solved five. There were 16 robberies in 2009, 14 in 2008, 12 in 2007 and 41 in 2006, police said.
Capt. Richard Robinson of HPD's Criminal Investigation Division said the department has a high rate of arresting suspects in bank robberies. Many cases are then turned over to federal authorities for prosecution.
"Based on HPD's historically high rate of solving bank robberies, we are confident that we will solve the outstanding cases," Robinson said.
