Advanced Japanese language ninth-graders from St. Andrew’s Priory today enacted the ancient art of kamishibai storytelling at the Kuakini Adult Day Care Center on Pali Highway.

Kamishibai — or “paper drama” — originated in Buddhist temples in the 12th century when monks told stories using picture scrolls.
The practice faded in the 1950s, but has seen a recent revival in Japanese libraries and elementary schools.
The project is part of the St. Anrew’s students’ oral test for speaking.
