The man who died on Waianae Valley Road yesterday has been identified by authorities as Anthony Gomes, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office.

Gomes, 23, of Waianae was killed at 1:20 p.m. Saturday when his car struck a utility pole. When Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene of the crash on 85-621 Waianae Valley Road, they found Gomes unresponsive and pronounced him dead at the scene at 2:05 p.m.
Firefighters with the Honolulu Fire Department assisted EMS in removing the man. The accident is being investigated by Honolulu police. Gomes is the 14th person to die in Honolulu as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
