Oahu lifeguards spotted slightly more than 100 box jellyfish today as the monthly influx has dropped off considerably.
The city’s Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division reports that 85 box jellyfish were seen on Waikiki Beach, 15 at Ala Moana Beach Park and five at Hanauma Bay.
Warning signs will remain posted and the public is asked to check with lifeguards before entering the ocean today until the advisory period expires tomorrow.
Yesterday, more than 600 box jellyfish were spotted on Waikiki Beach and more than 75 at Ala Moana Beach Park.
Ocean Safety says people stung by box jellyfish are advised to flush the sting area with white vinegar. Anyone experiencing breathing difficulty, muscle cramps/spasms and/or persistent pain are advised to seek immediate medical attention.
