Fire destroyed a one-bedroom apartment Tuesday in Makiki, the fire department reported.
No one was home at the time of the fire at 1419 Ernest St.

About 20 firefighters from four fire companies responded to the 12:42 p.m. fire. It was declared extinguished at 12:55 p.m.
Construction workers who had been working next door forced their way in through the apartment's back door to check if anyone was inside, HFD said.
Loss was estimated at $150,000. Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire.
