Rainbow Wahine end season with loss to top-seeded Fresno State

RENO, Nev. — Despite a promising start, the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team couldn't keep up with top-seeded Fresno State today in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, losing 83-55, in a quarterfinal game at the Lawlor Events Center.
The eighth-seeded Rainbow Wahine jumped to a 12-4 lead four minutes into the game, before the Bulldogs roared back, eventually taking a 49-28 halftime lead. Fresno State's tough man-to-man defense forced 13 first-half turnovers and the Bulldogs rallied by driving into the lane and hitting eight 3-pointers.
Hawai'i finishes the season 10-20. Dita Liepkalne and Keisha Kanekoa led the Rainbow Wahine with 12 points each. Breanna Arbuckle had 11 points.
Fresno State (26-5) advances to Friday's semifinals against the winner of Idaho-New Mexico State. Jaleesa Ross had 15 points, Hayley Munro had 11 and Rosie Moult and Joh-Teena Filipe had 10 points each for the Bulldogs.
