Scott Wong named UH women's volleyball associate coach

Punahou graduate and former Pepperdine All-American Scott Wong was named the new associate coach for the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team today by Hawai‘I coach Dave Shoji.
Wong was a volunteer assistant for Hawai‘i in 2006, when he helped develop a block that averaged more than five stuffs a set in the postseason. He replaces associate coach Mike Sealy, who left Mänoa after four years to take over as head coach at UCLA.
Wong was Marv Dunphy’s assistant with the Pepperdine men twice (2005 and ‘06, and 2008 and ‘09). He was associate coach for the University of San Francisco women last season. Last summer he was an assistant for the U.S. men’s national A2 team, which won a gold medal at the Pan American Cup. He has also coached girls’ club and high school teams in Southern California.
Wong played for the U.S. national team in the World League and won a gold medal at the World University Games in 2001. He was ranked as high as 16th individually and sixth as a team on the pro beach tour and took second at the 2007 New York AVP Tour stop. His older brother, Kevin, played beach volleyball in the Olympics.
In college, Scott Wong was the national Freshman of the Year in 1998 and earned first-team All-America honors his final two years. He earned a degree in business administration from Pepperdine in 2001 and a master’s in education from Loyola Marymount in 2005.
