Anthony T. Kaho'ohanohano and Thomas Ono were recognized Friday at a ceremony at the Fort DeRussy Museum Gallery of Heroes.

Ono, an Army private serving in World War II, neutralized five machine guns and killed or captured 17 German soldiers near La Torretto, Italy, on June 2, 1944.

He died in 1990 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross posthumously. Ono was inducted into the museum's Gallery of Heroes yesterday. Kaho'ohanohano, who had earlier been inducted into the Gallery of Heroes, was recognized at the ceremony after President Obama posthumously awarded him the Medal of Honor.

Kaho'ohanohano, an Army private first class in the Korean War, gave his life near Chup'a-ri, Korea, on Sept. 1, 1951, fighting with a machine gun, grenades and, finally, a shovel as fellow soldiers fell back to a more defensible position.
