Jailed man, 63, charged with attack on a police officer
A 63-year-old man who was being held in the Wahiawā police substation cellblock may have gotten in deeper trouble Tuesday night when he allegedly lunged at a police officer with a sharp object.
Police said the man was being held on another matter. Officers opened the door to the cell about 6:30 p.m. and saw that he was holding what appeared to be a sharp object.
Police said the man was ordered to drop the object, but he instead lunged at the desk sergeant, who dodged the attack.
Officers subdued the man and arrest him on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
A subsequent inspection of the cell showed the man had broken off a portion of a plastic window, which he tried to use as a weapon, police said.
