Hawaii County police on Friday identified a 57-year-old man who died Wednesday in a collision involving a pickup truck and moped as Joel L. Brooks of Mountain View.

Police said Brooks was riding a moped along the shoulder of Route 11 near Psyzk Road when he pulled out onto the roadway and was struck by a pickup truck.

Police said Brooks was not wearing a helmet.

He was the 15th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with 10 at the same time last year.

Police are still investigating the crash.
