UH FESTIVAL GETS UNDER WAY JUNE 13

The University of Hawai'i's KIDS FIRST! Film Festival — four summer Sundays of free family films — gets under way at 3 p.m. June 13 with two screenings geared for kids ages 5 to 8, "Plastic Perils of the Pacific," an animated short about the dangers plastic waste poses to marine animals, and a full-length feature, "Barbie in A Mermaid Tale."

Other films for kids ages 3 to 12 — free of gratuitous violence, race, gender or religious bias, and condescension toward children — screen June 27, July 11 and 18 in UH-Mānoa's art auditorium www.outreach.hawaii.edu/summer/kidsfirst.asp.
