Boxing: Roger Mayweather pleads not guilty in Vegas case

LAS VEGAS — Boxing trainer Roger Mayweather has pleaded not guilty to felony charges he beat and choked a female boxer at a Las Vegas apartment last August.
Clark County District Court Hearing Master Kevin Williams on Thursday set a June 1 trial date for Mayweather on coercion, battery-strangulation and battery causing substantial bodily harm charges. The charges carry the possibility of three to 16 years in jail.
The 48-year-old Mayweather declined comment outside court. He's free on $13,000 bail.
Mayweather is a former boxer who trains fighters in Las Vegas, including his undefeated 32-year-old nephew, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
His lawyer, Jack Buchanan, says he intends to file a legal challenge to the evidence and charges in the coming weeks.
