A man was killed and a woman injured in a motorcycle accident Thursday near Hilo, the Hawaii County fire department reported.

The incident happened near mile marker 2 on Akaka Falls Road, the fire department said.
Firefighters responding to a 2:16 p.m. call found both people lying on the road at the scene of a motorcycle accident. The man was dead and the woman was taken to Hilo Medical Center with multiple injuries.
Hawaii County police opened an investigation.
