Ali'i Drive collision kills motorcyclist, pedestrian

Advertiser Staff

A collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian on Sunday has left two Kailua, Kona, men dead.

Big Island police yesterday identified the men as Dale R. Dyk, 50, and Jaison Enriquez, 40.

Police said Dyk was driving a 1998 Harley Davidson and traveling south on Ali'i Drive in front of the Alii Lani condominiums shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday when the motorcycle struck Enriquez, who was crossing the street.

Enriquez was not in a crosswalk.

Paramedics took both men to Kona Community Hospital. Dyk was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. and Enriquez at 5:57 p.m.

Dyk was not wearing a helmet.

Police said they believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. Police said they believe that the pedestrian also had been drinking.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call Officer Marvin Troutman at 326-4646, ext. 229.

There have been three traffic deaths on the Big Island this year compared with one by this time last year.
