More workers test positive last year for crystal meth, marijuana

Advertiser Staff

The number of Hawaii workers testing positive for crystal methamphetamine and marijuana use increased in 2009 from 2008, according to statistics released yesterday by Diagnostic Laboratory Services Inc.

Use of crystal methamphetamine rose 33 percent over the prior year, and marijuana use was up 9 percent, the state’s largest locally owned drug testing company reported.
Cocaine use was unchanged, while those testing positive for opiates fell in 2009 from 2008.
DLS said its sample size typically includes between 7,000 to 10,000 drug tests.
