Hawai'i will receive $1.9 million in U.S. Department of Transportation grant funding for six improvement projects at National Wildlife Refuge sites, U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono announced yesterday.

Officials plan to:

• Pave the entrance road to the Kakahai'a National Wildlife Refuge on Moloka'i.

• Provide parking/traffic flow and pedestrian safety at Kílauea Point National Wildlife Refuge on Kaua'i.

• Make improvements, including to paving and drainage, at Kílauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.

• Plan and design an accessible route for tour bus passengers along Kuloa Point at Haleakalä National Park on Maui.

• Rehabilitate two miles of Mauna Loa Road at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.

• Rehabilitate the paved secondary road entrance to Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park on the Big Island.
