The city welcomed three new assistant chiefs yesterday — two in the Honolulu Police Department and one in the Honolulu Fire Department.

Delbert Tatsuyama and Randal Macadangdang were sworn in as deputy chiefs of police at a ceremony at Mayor Mufi Hannemann's office. Tatsuyama, who will oversee HPD's administrative operations, is a 29-year veteran of the force. Macadangdang, a 26-year veteran, will head field operations.

The two men will be second in command to Chief Louis Kealoha Jr., who took office in late November.

Tatsuyama and Macadangdang replace Paul Putzulu and Karl Godsey, who retired at the end of last year. Putzulu, acting chief for four months, was a 37-year veteran. Godsey first began in the department in 1979.

At HFD's South Street headquarters, Rolland Harvest was promoted to deputy fire chief. Harvest, who is a 27-year HFD veteran, will manage and supervise the department's executive staff and serve as HFD liaison with other agencies.

Harvest replaces Alvin Tomita, who retired at the end of last year after a 34-year career with the Fire Department. Tomita served as Fire Chief Kenneth Silva's deputy since the latter became HFD's head in January 2006.
