An 81-year-old Honolulu man died yesterday after he apparently fell from the Pali Lookout, officials said.
The man's identity was not immediately released. Police classified the case as an unattended death pending the outcome of an autopsy.
Police said the man was at the lookout with his wife when he climbed outside the railing. The wife said she saw her husband slip and fall about 9:45 a.m.
Fire rescue personnel rappelled about 200 to 250 feet below the lookout, where they found the man's body about 11 a.m., said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman. Seelig said the trail leading out of the area was overgrown, which made it difficult to recover the man's body.
Firefighters were able to bring the body out about 2 p.m. He died at the site.
