Inter-island terminal at Honolulu airport reopens after small fire

A fire in the ventilation system at a Burger King restaurant resulted in the closure and evacuation of the inter-island terminal at Honolulu International Airport for about an hour this afternoon.
The terminal reopened at 2:35 p.m., but travelers were advised to expect delays.
“We will be slower than usual for a few hours that it takes us to get back in business,” said Tammy Mori, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
A number of flights were affected by the closure of the terminal, but Mori did not immediately know how many.
The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. at the fast-food restaurant in the inter-island terminal.
State firefighters stationed at the airport quickly brough the blaze under control, officials said.
Mori said travelers booked on flights scheduled to leave from the inter-island terminal should expect delays as should those going to the terminal to meet arriving passengers.
Departing Hawaiian Airlines overseas flights have been rerouted and are arriving and leaving out of the main terminal, Mori said.
