PHILADELPHIA — Herb Magee has passed The General.

No men's coach at any NCAA level has won more games than the Division II coaching lifer — make it No. 903 for Magee, who has spent 43 years at Philadelphia University. He moved past Hall of Famer Bob Knight to become the winningest men's coach in NCAA history last night.

The 68-year-old Magee set the record with a 76-65 victory over Goldey-Beacom College. Magee has spent 50 years with the school, counting time as a player and assistant coach.

"It's really hard to win games," Magee said.

Knight, who declined comment to The Associated Press last night, won 902 games and three national championships in a 42-year career with Army, Indiana and Texas Tech. Northern State coach Don Meyer, who announced his retirement Monday, has 922 victories between the NAIA and NCAA.

Earlier this season, McKendree University coach Harry Statham notched his 1000th win at the NAIA powerhouse. The only other member of the 1,000-win club is Tennessee women's coach Pat Summitt.

Magee led the program to a national championship in 1970.

Fans started bellowing "903! 903!" over the final minutes and students stormed the court in celebration. The fans came dressed in maroon, mostly wearing T-shirts with "Magee" on the back.

After the game, fans and players were given "Property of Coach Magee" T-shirts with "903" on the front.

"When the game started, you could see the enthusiasm and I'm sure these guys felt it," Magee said. "I think every student in school was here, along with the faculty and administration. It was amazing, just amazing."

Jacob Pullen scored 28 points to lead three teammates in double figures as the visiting Wildcats (23-4, 10-3) rolled past the Red Raiders (16-11, 4-9) for their sixth straight win to remain alive for a possible tie for the Big 12 championship with No. 1 Kansas.

NO. 10 NEW MEXICO 72, COLORADO STATE 66

Dairese Gary scored 23 points, Roman Martinez had 17 and the visiting Lobos (26-3, 12-2 Mountain West) beat the Rams (15-12, 6-7) for their 12th straight victory to match the conference record for longest winning streak.

NO. 11 GEORGETOWN 70, LOUISVILLE 60

Austin Freeman scored 29 points and the visiting Hoyas (19-7, 9-6 Big East) trailed the entire first half, but opened the second half with a 24-3 run for a 53-38 lead which never dipped below seven in beating the Cardinals (18-10, 9-6) to end a two-game losing streak.

FLORIDA 75, NO. 19 TENNESSEE 62

Chandler Parsons and Erving Walker each scored 19 points, and the host Gators (20-8, 9-4 Southeastern Conference) used a 27-6 second-half run to turn a close game into a rout in beating the Volunteers (20-7, 8-5) for the first time in their last seven meetings.

EVANSVILLE 55, NO. 25 NORTHERN IOWA 54

James Haarsma had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the host Purple Aces (8-20, 2-15 Missouri Valley) past the Panthers (24-4, 14-3), who had already clinched the conference title outright. Evansville had lost 17 of 18 before pulling off the upset and beating a ranked team for the first time since 2003.

FRESNO STATE 79, CAL-STATE BAKERSFIELD 68

Greg Smith and Mike Ladd scored 17 points apiece, and Paul George added 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds as the host Bulldogs (14-15) beat the Roadrunners (7-20) in a non-conference game to snap a three-game losing streak.

Stephon Carter had 13 points for Cal State Bakersfield. Donavan Bragg and Jose Lara added 11 apiece for the Roadrunners.
