UH baseball team loses to No. 10 Oregon State, 7-3

No. 10 Oregon State did all its damage in two innings to beat Hawai‘i, 7-3, today to take a 2-0 lead in the four-game series before 1,705 at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Beavers (2-0) used a four-run third and three-run sixth against the Rainbows (0-2).
OSU starter Tanner Robles (1-0) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, six hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Kevin Rhoderick, who entered the eighth inning with the tying run on deck, pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his first save.

UH starter Matt Sisto (0-1) gave up six runs, six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
Hawai‘i took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With one out, Greg Garcia walked and scored on Kolten Wong’s double to left-center. Kevin Macdonald popped out to the second baseman Tyler Smith, who fell after making the catch. Wong tried to take third, but was gunned down at to end the inning.
Collin Bennett led off the bottom of the second with an opposite-field home run to right to give UH a 2-0 lead.
The Beavers strung six consecutive hits in a four-run third to take the lead. With one out, Michael Miller singled to left-center and took second on Smith’s ground single to left. Adalberto Santos’ two-run double tied the game at 2 and Rob Folsom’s RBi-single to center gave the Beavers a 3-2 lead. Folsom stole second and scored on Stefen Romero’s single to left. Romero went to third on Brandon Hayes’ single to right before Parker Berberet grounded to third for an inning-ending double play.
The Beavers padded their lead in the sixth. With two outs, Sisto walked Jared Norris and Carter Bell. Sisto was pulled for Connor Little, who walked Michael Miller to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Norris to increased OSU to 5-2. Smith followed with a two-run single to center to make it 7-2.
Hawai‘i got one run in the sixth. Garcia led off with a single to left-center and went to third on Wong’s single in the same area. Garcia scored on Macdonald’s sacrifice fly to left to pull UH to 7-3. Robles was pulled for Matt Boyd to face Bennett. But was picked off first and Bennett grouned out to third to end the inning.
