PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Trail Blazers went through a lot of changes yesterday. The one they enjoyed most was getting back to their winning ways at home after beating the Los Angeles Clippers, 109-87.

Portland, which lost four of its past six home games before the All-Star break, had little trouble putting away the struggling Clippers, who have lost five consecutive games.

Martell Webster tied a career high with 28 points, while LaMarcus Aldridge scored 22 for the Blazers.

"We got off to a good start and that is something we've been trying to improve on," Portland center Juwan Howard said. "We were really ready to start the second half of the season on a good note."

Brandon Roy, who missed 15 games because of a pulled right hamstring, scored four points in 15 minutes during the first half, but sat out the second half due to a recurrence of the injury.

Earlier yesterday, Portland and the Clippers made a trade in which the Blazers acquired 6-foot-11 center Marcus Camby in exchange for guard Steve Blake and forward Travis Outlaw.

Courtney Lee scored 21 points, Devin Harris added 17 and visiting New Jersey never trailed in beating Charlotte for only its fifth win of the season. Two of them have come against the Bobcats.

Deron Williams scored 17 points and dished out 15 assists, Mehmet Okur added 21 points and visiting Utah beat Houston for its 14th victory in 16 games. Utah had 30 assists to offset 21 turnovers.

Rasheed Wallace and Paul Pierce each scored 17 points as visiting Boston held off Sacramento to snap a two-game losing streak. Boston had lost five of eight games before the All-Star break.

Shannon Brown had 27 points and 10 rebounds while starting in place of the injured Kobe Bryant to lead host Los Angeles. Bryant sat out his fourth straight game because of a sprained left ankle.

Nuggets' Karl has cancer: Denver coach George Karl says he has been diagnosed with neck and throat cancer but was told it is treatable. Karl says he started a six-week treatment that includes chemotherapy yesterday, and the treatment could cause him to miss games and practices.
