The James Beard Foundation has named its five 2010 America's Classics Award honorees — restaurants with timeless appeal and food that reflects the character of the community, whether holes in the wall, lunch counters or down-home eateries.

The awards will be presented May 3 at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York City.
The five honorees are:
• Mary & Tito's Cafe, Albuquerque, N.M., a family-owned adobe cafe featuring New Mexican food.
• The Bright Star, Bessemer, Ala., serving a unique Greek-meets-Southern cuisine for more than 100 years.
• Al's French Frys, South Burlington, Vt, serving famous crispy, crackly French fires from a counter in a small hot for more than 60 years.
• Calumet Fishereis, Chicago, Ill., a stand-alone shack serving fried and oak-smoked seafood and shellfish since 1948.
• Gustavus Inn, Gustavus, Ak., specialising in family-style fish suppers in this tiny community.
A previous winner of this award was Helena's Hawaiian Foods in Kalihi.
