UH water polo wins, loses in Stanford event

The third-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team split a pair of matches yesterday in the opening round of the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
Leonie van der Molen scored four goals as the Rainbow Wahine beat No. 9 Arizona State, 11-7, in the morning.
Fifth-ranked UCLA beat UH, 9-8, in the day's final match of the tournament, which features eight of the top nine teams in the nation.
Monika Eggens scored three goals in the loss to the Bruins.
UH (5-2) plays No. 4 California today.
BASEBALL
UH-HILO FALLS, 7-3
Connor Rankin hit a two-run double and Joel Oliver added a two-run homer during a five-run eighth inning surge that carried Northwest Nazarene to a 7-3 victory over host Hawai'i-Hilo yesterday at Simmons' Field in Kailua, Kona.
Rankin, Niko Hawes and Greg Christensen each had two hits for the Crusaders (2-2).
Hilo's Cody Barrett hit a two-run single that tied the score 2-2 in the sixth. Keoni Manago had two hits for the Vulcans (2-2).
The teams continue their six-game season-opening series tomorrow.
TENNIS
STANFORD BEATS UH
Ninth-ranked Stanford beat No. 4 Hawai'i, 6-1, yesterday in a men's match in Stanford, Calif.
The Cardinal (4-0) swept the doubles and won five of six singles matches.
Leo Rosenberg got the lone point for the Rainbow Warriors (5-2) with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Richard Wire on the No. 4 court.
SOFTBALL
HPU SWEEPS BYUH
Sherise Musquiz and Ashley Valine pitched Hawai'i Pacific to an 11-1 and 4-0 sweep of host Brigham Young-Hawai'i yesterday.
Musquiz worked four innings and Valine one, teaming on a two-hitter in the five-inning opener. Ciera Senas had three hits and four RBIs for the Sea Warriors.
Valine spaced seven hits over five innings, and Musquiz closed with two perfect innings in the seven-inning second game.
